Celebrate with song, dance and food

AS part of Language Month on Saturday from 11:00 until 17:00 a vibrant festival is taking place at Chippa’s Place in Mbekweni. A multicultural, multilingual program with poetry, song, dance and traditional food awaits visitors to Chippa’s Place, who is collaborating with the Afrikaans Language Museum and Paarl Tourism for the “Met eish, ja!” festival. Visitors can swing by any time during the day to enjoy the variety of entertainment that will take place. Performers include the à capella group Mbekweni Black Bafanas, the song and dance groups Imbizo and Oa tuka mollo, the Wellington minstrel group the Disas, story teller Johan Bakkes, poets Syrill Lehana and Khanya Mpuhlu, word artist Petro Rhode, the Mbekweni Gumboot Dancers, the gospel group Intsikelelo, Phakamani (with a choir, a Sarafina performance and hip-hop and “ragga” DJ’s), as well as amaBhulu, who play a mix of folk, kwela, rock, reggae and melancholic ballads with a healthy helping of “boeremusiek”.
