Vineyards too strong up front
2008-08-28
VINEYARDS RUGBY CLUB’S forwards outplayed their opponents, Allandale, in the wet weather on Saturday to secure a 12-6 victory. The strong performance up front suited Vineyards’ game plan perfectly, with brothers Zarier (eighthman), Wasfi and Binnie Nackerdien (both flanks) being prominent with the ball in hand. Vineyards won all their line-outs and Zahier Baker and Arrie Abrahams (both locks) stole most of their opponents’ balls. Eighteen year-old Clint Abrahams (prop) was deservedly named man of the match for his massive work rate and strong scrummaging. The youngster even managed to scrum his bigger opponents to the ground several times. Vineyards’ tries were scored by Wasfi Nackerdien and Junaid Moerat (hooker). Adlee Moerat added two points with the boot. Vineyards’ second team drew 10-10. In another match Vineyards u.16’s were crowned the Paarl regional champions after beating Windmeul 21-0 in the final at Faure Street Stadium on Saturday. Vineyards play Blues this coming weekend at Dal Josaphat Stadium. A post season function will be held at 21 Barbarossa Street (Adnaan Moerat’s house) after the game on Saturday where the Easter tour for next year will be discussed. All are welcome.
