Biggest wine festival opens
2008-08-28
FROM 10 to 12 September, RMB WineX returns to Cape Town for the sixth consecutive year. The show is on daily from 17:00 to 21:00 at the Cape Town Convention Centre. This year an entirely new look, featuring colourful room-wraps occupying over 700m˛ of wall space add a fresh dimension to the wine show. WineX offers wine enthusiasts the opportunity to visit most of the Cape’s wine routes over the show’s three day duration. With around 200 South African and international exhibitors showing some 1200 wines per night, it has been necessary to introduce multiple night passes so that wine aficionados can dedicate enough time to make the most of the show. The room guide – divided into a varietal and producer listing – helps visitors to work the 5000m˛ space as efficiently as possible. With its vast number of established, boutique and new wineries under one roof, WineX has long been regarded as South Africa’s premier wine festival. Blue chip producers like Bouchard Finlayson, Boekenhoutskloof, De Toren, Hamilton Russell, Jordan, Klein Constantia, Meerlust, Rustenberg, Springfield, Thelema, and Vergelegen showcase their finest wines alongside platinum-edged newcomers like Cape Point Vineyards, Ernie Els, Oak Valley, Raka, Saronsberg and Tokara. There is a splendid line-up of newcomers, many the big names of tomorrow, including Kingsriver Estate, La Vigne and Topiary Wines. Whether you are looking for the latest well-priced treasure or seeking rare award-winning wines, WineX offers you an infinite selection. Laureates from the 2008 Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show, the Decanter World Wine Awards and the International Wine Challenge, as well as an array of the Platter Guide Five Star winners and Wine Magazine’s Challenge winners will be in attendance. Hand-crafted cheese, sushi, oysters and olive oils will also be on offer, together with imported and local wine accessories and glassware. Visitors will be able to Shop@Show, purchasing for less than the wineries’ cellar door prices. WineX visitors are invited to participate in a poll to determine the show-goers’ preferred wines in the award-categories of Best White Wine and Best Red Wine on Show. Early Bird tickets at R75 can be purchased until 7 September. Thereafter, tickets for Wednesday and Thursday are R90 and Fridays are R95 from Computicket – telephone 083-915- 8000 or online at www.computicket.com.
