Youngsters surprised

Media 24 in partnership with Boland Travel, Heart of Healing and Paarl Medi-Clinic, has shed a little light in the lives of a few youngsters living in Mbekweni. The children, their caregiver, Nombulelo Toni, and her assistants Gina and Shaun were ecstatic over the generous gesture.
The Media24 Corporate Social Investment team, along with their supporters, donated blankets, toys, clothing and groceries to Nombulelo, the young philantropist who cares for the orphans.
The group were very grateful for the contribution, as they have no sustainable income or government assistance. According to Anneke Kriek from Boland Travel, the experience of interacting with the young children was extremely humbling and made one appreciate your circumstances so much more. “These children have been blessed with a second chance in life, which is something that not many children are afforded.” Nombulelo cares for 17 children in total, ranging between the ages of 1 and 24 years old, on a full-time basis. The children have been neglected or abused by their parents and Nombulelo has provided them with a safe haven where they are given love, support and a good education. She provides them with three meals a day and supports all the children by means of donations which she receives on an irregular basis. “We are just so thankful” Nombulelo said. “The children need love and reassurance that they are special. That is what we are trying to give them. A house filled with love”. Some of the children in Nombulelo’s care are HIV positive and suffer from other diseases such as tuberculosis.
