Wine showcase at Nederburg

A PREMIER event on Cape Town’s wine calendar, the Nederburg Auction which takes place at Nederburg in Paarl on 19 and 20 September, serves to showcase the spectrum of award-winning wines and rare Cape finds created by the country’s most talented winemakers. These wines have passed the stringent criteria of the selection panel of 60 experts, comprising Cape Wine Masters, cellar masters and winemakers. This year’s prestigious two-day event offers a selection of 5575 cases of 152 fine wines from nearly 80 participants - the complete line-up this year comprises 92 red, 28 white, six natural sweet, 15 Noble Late Harvest, 9 ports and three muscadel wines. The red wines include 31 red blends, 19 Cabernet Sauvignons, nine Pinotages, six Merlots, 18 Shiraz/Syrahs and nine other reds. The 28 white wines include one MCC, five Sauvignon Blancs, 11 Chardonnays, six Chenin Blancs and five white blends. The theme of this year’s auction is South African Quality and will be reflected in all aspects of the two-day event, from the business focus on the Friday to the more leisurely pace that characterises the Saturday programme.
