FINALLY it has happened. After years in temporary classrooms and poor conditions, the 425 pupils and 12 teachers of Dalubuhle Primary School in Franschhoek have had the opportunity to move to a brand new school building. “We moved from Wemmershoek to Franschhoek ten years ago when the mobile classrooms were placed at Groendal Primary,” says Lucy Mbenenge, principal of Dalubuhle Primary School. “Unfortunately the facilities were poor. We held several marches hoping to resolve the problem, and finally it happened. We are so glad.” The new school, which boasts 17 classrooms, a computer room, media centre, library and hall was officially opened by Yousuf Gabru, the provincial minister for education. It is the only Xhosa medium school in Franschhoek.
