2008-09-11
THE inaugural Nelson’s Creek Mountain Bike Challenge runs from Saturday to Sunday at the Nelson Wine Estate on the R44 between Paarl and Wellington. Riders will be tackling the virgin trail in an area that has never been open to cyclists in an event before, with the winner of the three-day challenge going home with R10 000 prize money. A total purse of R26 000 is up for grabs. The Nelson’s Creek MTB Festival offers something for the entire family, with pony rides, trampoline, quad bikes, jumping castle, swings for kids (under 10’s camp for free), the Pearl’s Gate Barrel tasting and a downhill event on Sunday - there’s something for everyone. The challenge also forms part of the seeding series for the 2009 Cape Argus Pick ’n Pay Mountain Bike Challenge that will take place at Boschendal Wine Estate on 1 March. The two-day Mountain Bike Challenge option package is R500 which includes camping. Visit www.mtbfestival.co.za.
