Water workshop in Worcester

Water workshop in Worcester

2005-07-21

A REGIONAL consultative workbshop on water allocation reform in the Western Cape will be held at the Cumberland Hotel in Worcester on 10 August.

The Department of Water Affairs, with funding from the UK, has developed a Draft Framework for Water Allocation Reform which seeks innovative approaches for allocating and authorising water use.

The purpose is to redress past inequities, build capacity to use water efficiently and responsibly.

Other goals of the policy are to promote development and growth without impacting on the sustainability of water resources.

It must also improve the way in which licenses are processed in the department.

The workshop will allow stakeholders further opportunities to give input.
