FOOD connoisseurs and budding chefs can look forward to a culinary experience with a difference at this year’s Cultivaria Festival in Paarl. From Friday to Sunday some of the country’s top chefs, celebrities and restaurateurs can be seen in action at the Bokomo Food and Home Kitchen. This latest addition to the jam-packed festival lineup is a gourmet celebration with decadent demonstrations taking place throughout the weekend at Die Burger Emporium. Chefs from The Culinary Academy team up with cooking legend Peter Veldsman, Rooi Rose food editor Nicola Basson and Fairview’s cheese-maker, Louis Lourens, for mouthwatering presentations. The cooking action starts on Friday at 13:30 with A Lunch Affair hosted by head chef of The Culinary Academy, Justin Paterson. Afterwards join acclaimed pastry chef Nicolas van der Walt of the Saxon Hotel as he demonstrates his supreme skills with sugar and chocolate that have won him the title of most promising pastry chef in the world. His absolute passion for confectionery and chocolate will be showcased during his session Passport to Sublime Pleasure on Friday at 14:45. Prepare for a sweet seduction during his fabulous High Tea Ideas for Homes in Paarl on Saturday at 12:15 and Sunday at 17:00. Explore the Secrets of the Kikka Kitchen with chef Tiaan Langenegger. On Friday evening chef Justin Paterson promises to get the evening off to a great start with a cocktail hour with a difference when he teams up with bar service consultancy Liquidchefs for entertaining ideas in Cocktails & Canapes on Friday at 17:00. Watch the masters in action and explore the subtleties of creative cocktails. Rise and shine each morning with Rooi Rose food editor Nicola Basson’s creative ideas for a nutritious start to the day. Her special Bread ’n Brunch session will offer tantalising tips to turn the most important meal of the day into a culinary feast on Saturday and Sunday at 11:00. No meal is complete without cheese. Try the heavenly selection from the fabulous Fairview estate outside Paarl when Justin Paterson is joined by these world-acclaimed cheese-makers during Cheesy Moments on Saturday at 13:30 and Sunday at 14:45.
