Young actors sought for new production

THE Paarl and Wellington Studios of the Helen O’Grady Drama Academy are seeking young people of school-going age to join its end-of-year production at the Old Mill Theatre in Paarl in November. This fresh production called ‘Cinderella in Africa’ has been especially written for the students of the Academy and will be a wonderful experience for people interested in the theatre. Following the pantomime genre, the students will act as various comical characters, including pantomime dames, the Fairy Godmother and her sidekick Gladys and Buttons, Cinderella’s friend, who is traditionally played by a girl. Additional comical characters such as the King, Queen, a spiteful stepmother as well as the hilarious court attendants will add spice to this fast-paced production. In the true spirit of Pantomime, the play charts the story of Cinderella, with an African flavour, including load shedding and other topical themes. The Ugly Sisters and the horrible stepmother will all be played by boys in slapstick comedy-style and there will be lots of opportunities for audience participation. The Academy is open to all young people from age 5 to 18 years old. No experience is necessary as full training will be given and interested people should contact the Helen O’Grady Office on 021674-7478 or email info@dramaafrica.com
