ANC man charged with rape
2008-09-25
ANOTHER ANC kingpin has landed in hot water, after charges of rape were laid against him. It is alleged that a married ANC councillor of Drakenstein municipal council and a friend gave three young women from Wellington a lift home after a rugby match in Hermon on Saturday. According to one of the women, the councillor stopped the vehicle just outside his home town of Gouda. He and the other man then forced the women out of the car. The councillor then allegedly undressed one of the women and raped her. After charges were laid at the Hermon police station, he was arrested the same day and appeared in the Malmesbury Magistrate’s Court on Monday. This councillor, whose name may not be revealed before he has pleaded on the charges, has previously also been at loggerheads with the law. In 2005, charges of assault were laid against him, after he allegedly assaulted a female colleague. He was however found not guilty on this charge by the magistrate, due to conflicting statements between him and the accuser. * Another ANC councillor who is in hot water with the law, is Saron councillor Dan Kotze. Kotze has been accused of assault after an attack on a farmer and his wife last year. The case was due to resume last week, but was postponed until Monday.
