Mayoral Cup kicks off next week

WITH the Mayoral Soccer Cup draw taking place in the Wellington Town Hall tonight, teams are preparing for an exciting local soccer tournament which kicks off on 11 October. The tournament, which is sponsored by Drakenstein Municipality and Genuine Connection, consists of 33 local clubs who will do battle on the Dal Josaphat sports grounds, Mbekweni Stadium, Boy Louw sports grounds and Faure Street Stadium, in a world cup tournament format. A total of 64 games of soccer will be played during the tournament, with the final scheduled to take place on 22 November. The tournament will also have junior and ladies’ divisions. Last year’s winner of the tournament was Mbekweni United, with Paarl Soccer Club the runners-up.
