Bellingham shines
2008-10-02
WITH 180 world wine experts judging more than 4 000 vintage wines from around the globe over a fortnight in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, Germany, the MUNDUSvini Great International Wine Awards were the stage for Bellingham winning two Gold Medals. Bellingham Fair Maiden 2007 and Bellingham The Maverick Syrah 2005 reaped golden gongs against some of the stiffest competition the two award-winning vintages have faced to date. Another wine, the Bellingham The Maverick SMV 2005, won a Silver Medal. Founded in 2001 to become a forum for information on all aspects of wine for both industry professionals and consumers, the MUNDUSvini International Wine Academy has become a font of wisdom for the wine world. “Apart from the annual awards MUNDUSvini has become known for being an excellent source of information for the wine industry,” said Bellingham winemaker, Niël Groenewald. “By sharing insights and information, and promoting discussion and interface across the globe for wine industry players, MUNDUSvini has become a valuable resource,” he added. Niël said the diversity of backgrounds of the 180 judges made the competition unique, because it promoted diversity and offered a unique platform for transparent judging and interpretation. And, closer to home, Bellingham St. Georges 2005 was among the Diamond Winners (in the “Other Red Blend” category) of the 2008 Investec Private Bank Winemakers’ Choice competition.
