Bellingham wins international trophy

2008-10-09

WITH two “Best in Class” accolades and five medals, Bellingham has truly entered into the spirit of the International Wine and Spirit Competition, famed for its unique blend of complex technical analysis and a panel of judges from the “great and the good” of world wine.

Taking Gold and Best in Class was The Bernard Series Old Vine Chenin Blanc 2007 by Bellingham.

Also in the money were Best in Class and Silver winner The Bernard Series Hand-picked Viognier 2007, The Bernard Series Small Barrel SMV 2005 (Silver), The Bernard Series Basket Press Syrah 2005 (Silver) and Bellingham Fair Maiden (Silver).

The Bernard Series Old Vine Chenin Blanc 2007 was also the winner of the coveted Spier Trophy 2008, an honour it had previously gleaned in 2006 for the 2004 vintage.

The Old Vine Chenin Blanc 2007 is part of the historic farm’s The Bernard Series, which celebrates the maverick founder Bernard Podlashuk, who ventured where his winemaker peers feared to tread.

First held in 1969, the International Wine and Spirit Competition has become synonymous with achievement and excellence.

Launched to promote quality in the world’s best wines, spirits and liqueurs, the Competition has achieved its leading profile through a rigorous two-stage judging process involving tasting the wines blind and highly detailed chemical and microbiological technical analysis.

To guarantee the best possible judging conditions the organisers provide climate controlled cellar premises, a state of the art independent laboratory and dedicated tasting rooms.
