MBEKWENI police hit the jackpot last week, when they seized R45 000 worth of dagga. On Thursday evening, the police received an anonymous tip-off from a member of the public about a large amount of dagga which was being stored in a house at 861 Mafila Street, Silvertown. After a warrant to search the premises was acquired, the house was thoroughly searched by members of the Mbekweni crime prevention unit, under the leadership of Insp Kobus Skinner. When nothing was found in the house, they searched two shacks on the property. In one of these buildings, they found two large metal boxes which were locked with padlocks. After forcing the locks open, the police discovered the loot. Altogether 21,5 kg of dagga was found. A spokesperson for the police said that this was one of the biggest hauls of dagga in Mbekweni in recent months. “It is always good to take drugs off the street, and a large amount like this is a bonus.”
