PAARL for all its beauty also records a high incidence of asthma and allergy due to abundant plant growth.
In a joint service by Cipla Medpro Pharmaceuticals and Paarl Medicross an Asthma and Allergy Clinic will be run at Medicross one afternoon every fortnight - the next session will commence Thursday 28 July.
This free service is to identify and assist patients with inhaler technique, asthma education, medicine usage and allergy symptoms.
Cipla Medpro has appointed Sister Geraldine Brown as Asthma Educator and Disease Management Advisor to assist in the clinic.
Sister Brown is accredited with the National Asthma Education Programme. She spent 15 years in the Allergy Clinic at Red Cross Children’s Hospital in a supervisory and teaching capacity.
The programme in Paarl is endorsed by allergologist Prof Eugene Weinberg of the UCT Lung Institute, who will conduct sessions personally on 26 September, 7 November and 12 December.
Dr Jan Vermeulen, well-known allergy paediatrician, will share consulting sessions.
Medicross will provide facilities for consults. Any untoward findings will be evaluated, the patient informed and referred to their GP for follow up.
