Old Boys taste sweet victory
2008-10-16
IN the first league game of their first season in the Western Province Summer Hockey League, Paarl Boys’ High Old Boys came out on top by beating the strong Tygerberg team 4-0. This victory proved that the new club from Paarl has entered to compete for the WP summer league title from the word go. Continuous pressure by strikers Thaamir Moerat and John Swanepoel meant that the boys from Paarl had the luxury of eleven short corners in the first half, of which four were converted into goals. Tygerberg was a different team in the second half and threw everything at the Paarl Old Boys, but goalkeeper Adlee Moerat and captain Jean Oosthuizen (centre back) were solid on defence. The goals were scored by Swanepoel (2), Ryan Calanan and Michael Oosthuizen. Tonight Paarl Old Boys will come up against Brackenfell at the Bellville Astro Turf at 20:00. All new players can contact Thaamir on 083-308-2015.
