Summer track cycling in full swing

THE Neotel Yorkshire Cycling Club hosted its first local Summer Track League at Faure Street Stadium on 10 and 17 October. In the Open Category (Elite, Juniors and Veterans) the racing was dominated by Reniel Matthysen (Wilde). He took victories in the open 15 laps points race, unknown distance, elimination race as well as the Elite 3 laps scratch race. Brandon Christians took victories in all the Junior races and also got good positions in the Open events. Local youngsters who took podium positions in the u.16 category were Nathan Cornelissen (Neotel Rhadsport) and Bradwin Daniels (Peco CC). Cornelissen was first over the line in the u.16 three laps scratch race. In the u.10 and u.12 categories, Wade Theunissen (Neotel Rhadsport) and Graeme Ockhuis (Neotel Yorkshire) stood out, with Theunissen beating Ockhuis in the 2 laps scratch race. During the second Track League on Friday, Mathyssen again had a very successful evening on the bike, opening the evening with a convincing win in the 15 laps scratch race, with Brandon Christians coming second. Mathyssen also took the open 6 laps scratch race as well as the 30 laps scratch race. In the open 3 laps scratch race, Avery Arendse came second. In the u.16 category Cornelissen won the 3 laps, with Brent van Rooyen (Neotel Rhadsport) in 2nd position. In the u.12 category Jantjies took victory in the 2 lap race while Ockhuis took victories in the 3 laps as well as the 5 laps races. In both events Jantjies finished in third position. Luc Green (Neotel Yorkshire) took second in the 2 lap race and third positions in the other two u.12 races. In the u.10 Category Wade Theunissen (Neotel Rhadsport) won all of his events. The final event will take place on Saturday at Faure Street Stadium (at 14:00). All scholars are welcome to take part in the development races.
