ALTHOUGH he did not make the medals list during the Commonwealth Amateur Wrestling Championships, Paarlite Coenraad de Villiers still tasted gold.
De Villiers, who wrestles for the Brackenfell Wrestling Club, finished fifth in the freestyle category for 84kg.
He redeemed himself a couple of days later at the South African Centenary Cup Tournament, however, winning gold in the same category.
The Centenary tournament followed shortly after the Commonwealth Championships that were held in Stellenbosch recently.
The majority of the Commonwealth wrestling nations stayed for the wrestling camp/symposium which followed the championships and then also competed at the Centenary Cup.
In the preliminary rounds India, South Africa and Germany dominated the SA Centenary Cup matches.
India won the team trophies for the Freestyle men and women and Greco-Roman men categories, as they did in the Commonwealth Championships.
South Africa also repeated their Commonwealth Championship performance coming second.
