2008-10-30
THE Neotel Yorkshire Cycling Club hosted its final track league of three on Saturday at the Faure Street Stadium. The young junior cyclist of Neotel Rhadsport, Brandon Christians, showed some good form to win the Open 15 Laps Points Race, Three Laps Scratch Race and the Elimination Race. In the final event, the Open 10 km Race, Lesley Snyders (Neotel Rhadsport) enjoyed a solo win when he rode away from the bunch with eight laps to go. He won with a lead of 80 metres. Christians again showed his dominance and won the bunch sprint for second position and Nathan Cornelissen finished third. In the combined u.16, u.14 and ladies events, Nathan Cornelissen came out tops to win the three laps and five laps scratch races. Bartin Daniels (Neotel Yorkshire) finished third in the three laps and Ralston van Niekerk (Neotel Rhadsport) finished third in the five laps. Wade Theunissen won the u.10 and u.12 handicap race. Jean Claude Jantjies was victorious in the three laps and the five laps race. Nishaan Paulsens (Peco) won the beginner/development races, with Alex Davids (Peco) coming second in the two laps and three laps scratch races. * On Sunday the Neotel academy riders travelled to Milnerton for the Pedal Power Kia Westcoast Express League race. It was an excellent day for racing and the senior scholars (Juniors and u.16) raced over 80km. The junior scholars’ (u.12 and u.14) event was over 40km. In the senior scholars event Christians showed that his victories in the previous day’s track event were no fluke, when he convincingly won the 80km race that ended in a bunch sprint. His time for the 80km race was 2h10,13 min. Second was Louis Boonzaaier (Harmony) and third Emile Jacobs (Acsis Life Cycle Academy). The younger age group, the 40 km junior scholars event, was won by Oliver Stapleton Cotton. He beat Brent van Roooyen of Neotel Rhadsport in the bunch sprint.
