THE Paarl Soccer Club sealed the top position of their group in the Mayoral Cup when they defeated Young Ideas 2-1 last Wednesday in their match at the Mbekweni Stadium. Paarl started the match at a furious tempo with Igshaan Dennis giving the visitors the lead in the first minute. In the last quarter of the first half, the home side played with more vigour and quick interchange and passing kept the Paarl defence guessing. The home side equalised with a penalty in the second half when Hilton Jooste was adjudged to have handled the ball in the penalty area. However, Paarl Soccer Club was the more aggressive of the two sides and showed the urgency to outmuscle their opponents to allow themselves more opportunities at goal. Leroy Prins created the breakthrough for Paarl when he pressurised the defender into a mistake and scored the winner. Revaugn Mitchell was the man of the match. * On Saturday, Paarl came up against Juventus (Mbekweni) in a fixture Metropolitan league match at the Boy Louw Sports grounds. It was the visitors who scored first when a misunderstanding between Keith Goodwin and Revaughn Mitchell led to the Juventus striker latching onto the ball and converting it marvellously. After harsh words by the management during the interval, the Paarl side showed more resilience and urgency in the second half. Prins scored first for Paarl, followed by a brilliant goal by Bjorn Cavernelis to seal the game (2-1). Charlon Kerspuy was the man of the match.
