Vegetable feast

Vegetable feast

2008-11-13

Workers of Simonsvlei and Klein Simonsvlei Wine Estates outside Paarl recently planted the first vegetable seeds for their own “food project”. The project was made possible by owners Daan Joubert and his father Niel (Niel Joubert Wines) to give the workers the opportunity to produce their own vegetables – and to bring relief amid growing food prices. The Jouberts made available about 2,5 hectares of land – and supplied the infrastructure, such as the irrigation system, the compost and seed for the planting season. The project, that will benefit a community of about 50 workers, will yield enough vegetables to be able to sell the excess.
