Vinpro converts to company
2008-11-20
TO adapt to the changing realities in the agricultural environment, VinPro, a representative organisation for South African wine producers, has been converted to a company. This was announced at VinPro’s annual general meeting where chairman Abrie Botha expressed his satisfaction with the organisation’s successes during its first five years. At an extraordinary general meeting, VinPro members voted unanimously in favour of the conversion of VinPro Co-op Ltd from a co-operative to a company limited by guarantee, after which VinPro Ltd was born. This decision followed changing regulations with regard to the new Co-operatives Act. Due to the conversion, VinPro is now situated in a business entity similar to the previous co-operative in which the management of the organisation and its strategic service delivery to producers can be continued optimally and in a more sustainable manner. “VinPro would like to thank its producer members for supporting the conversion, which is also beneficial to their own sustainability,” says Botha. VinPro opened its doors in January 2003 following the conversion of KWV to a company. As a result of this restructuring VinPro was established as an independent co-operative that has since served various serviceorientated and representative functions with regard to its nearly 4 500 primary wine producer members. VinPro’s labour corps is mainly situated at the Paarl office, with offices in Robertson, Worcester and Vredendal.
