La Motte winemaker to head Shiraz Association
2008-11-20
THE newly elected chairman of the Shiraz Association for South Africa, is La Motte’s winemaker, Edmund Terblanche. This recently formed association has the mandate of creating a sustainable culture of South African Shiraz acceptance and enjoyment around the world. In order to achieve this, the Association will focus on positioning South Africa as a leader in the production of quality Shiraz wines. It has a directive to increase the knowledge of its members on all aspects regarding the viticulture and vinification of Shiraz grapes and the production of Shiraz wines. The Association will also serve as a forum for exchanging ideas on the production and marketing of Shiraz wines and for identifying problem areas in the production of Shiraz wines in South Africa. “It is an association that will focus on Shiraz much like the well respected Pinotage Association focuses on Pinotage,” explains Edmund. “Our main purpose is to educate South African wine makers about what the worldwide trends influencing Shiraz currently are,” he says.
