Prison team wins league

THE Solms Delta Trust Basketball League came to an entertaining end this weekend with the finals taking place at the Solms Delta Winery in Franschhoek on Saturday. With a spectacular season coming to an end, it was the team of Prison White who claimed the title as overall victors in the senior men’s division when they beat Kayamandi in the finals. Earlier in the men’s division, Prison White, the basketball team at Drakenstein Medium A Correctional Centre, beat Kylemore High School 34-16, while Kayamandi beat Prison Red 24-16, to reach the finals. Kylemore beat the Paarl School of Skills 30-17 in the first match of the senior men’s division. In the junior boys’ division it was the team of Simondium who beat Kylemore 33-29 in the final to taste sweet victory. In order to reach the final Simondium had no trouble in beating Pniel Primary 36-13, with Kylemore (PC Pietersen) comfortably beating Solms Delta 17-0. In the final of the junior girls division, Kylemore (PC Pietersen) beat Pniel 25-22 in a tough encounter. The two teams that reached the finals in the junior girls’ division easily overcame their semi-final hurdles when Kylemore beat Wemmershoek 34-2, with Pniel Primary thrashing Simondium 47-5.
