AN alleged muti thief has escaped with the eye of a deceased man in Mbekweni.

Albert Djonase (28) was last seen by his mother in their informal home in Sangoma Street, C Section, on Saturday afternoon.

Djonase was a chronic epileptic sufferer, and again suffered a severe attack on Saturday afternoon.

He eventually fell asleep in his home, and was not seen alive again.

The next morning, his mother made the gruesome discovery of his dead body, of which one of his eyes had been gouged out.

The initial suspicion was that the victim’s eye had been eaten out by a rat, but on closer examination, it was discovered that it had been neatly cut out with a blade.

According to the victim’s family, they did not hear anything during the evening, and were under the impression that he was still sleeping.

It is suspected that he died in his sleep, before the horrific act took place.

The police are investigating the incident. Anybody with information can contact Capt Selma Bredenhann at 021-868-9926.
