SO often we hear negative comments about the police and how incompetent and corrupt they are.
But I was so impressed when I needed their assistance last weekend after I discovered my home had been burgled. Fortunately I have the cell phone number of the Northern Paarl local police unit in my area, saved on my cellphone, and they arrived at my home within minutes of my call.
The officers were sympathetic, friendly and very efficient. They contacted another unit in the area, asking them to keep an eye open for the perpetrator.
A finger-printing detective arrived (by which time it was 23:00 at night) and stayed for about an hour and a half, thoroughly dusting every possible spot for clues.
Early the following morning I received an SMS with the case number.
Thank you to all involved, for your empathy and efficient, friendly service. I have a renewed sense of confidence in our police service.
