THE Drakenstein Municipality has embarked on a project to ensure the sustainable future of the Paarl Arboretum.

The first phase of the project comprises the compilation of a plan to guide future management as well as to address issues such as security.

“The Arboretum should play a larger role in tourism, recreational and educational activities.

“We are currently busy with the informational study to ensure the best future for this tree park,” says Sarien Lategan of Geostratics which has been commissioned by the Municipality to look at future plans for the Arboretum.

“We will also contact specific users of this area. “In the first quarter of next year we want to analyse the situation and get a plan on the table,” she says.

Any organisation or person who visits or uses the Arboretum is invited to register on the stakeholder database.

This will afford all interested and affected parties the opportunity to give input in the plan, and to be kept informed of the progress of the study.

Submit your name and contact details (telephone number, postal address and e-mail) to Paarl Arboretum project, fax 021-852- 0966 or arboretum@geostratics.co.za, before 31 January.
