Community Games set to kick off

THE Drakenstein Community Games will be held from 1 December to 16 December within the borders of Drakenstein Municipality. It is the third year that the Community Games has been implemented by Bright Idea (in collaboration with Drakenstein Municipality) to promote participation in sport, targeting different areas on different days. Sporting codes included are athletics, sevens rugby, five-a-side soccer, netball, basketball and cultural events for age groups from u.11 to u.19 (girls and boys). Last year nearly 5000 children participated. On Monday the first Games will be held at the Saron sports field from 08:00 to 17:00. On Tuesday they will be at the Gouda sports grounds and on Wednesday at the CPUT sports grounds in Wellington (08:00 to 17:00). On 4 December the Games move to Mbekweni sports grounds, followed by the Weltevrede sports grounds (Van Wyksvlei) on 5 December. On 8 December the venue is Paulus Joubert Primary School (08:00 to 16:00) followed by New Orleans Secondary School on 9 December (08:00 to 16:00). On 10 December the Games will take place at Dalweide Primary from 08:00 to 16:00, followed by Simondium Primary School on 11 December (07:00 to 16:00). The Reconciliation Day final will be held at the Dal Josaphat Stadium on 16 December, from 07:00 to 17:00.
