Sweet success in Tri-Nations Wine Challenge
2008-12-04
NEDERBURG was the only South African producer on the 2008 Tri-Nations Wine Challenge to come home from Sydney with two gold medals, won by the 2007 Winemaster’s Reserve Noble Late Harvest and the 2004 Private Bin S316, Nederburg Auction dessert wine. The 2007 Winemaster’s Reserve was South Africa’s only gold medallist on the 2008 International Sweet Wine Challenge held in Australia earlier this year. It also took a Grand d’Or medal on the Michelangelo International Wine Awards held locally. The 2007 Winemaster’s Reserve tied for second place in its category with another South African entrant, the 2006 Ken Forrester Wines “T” while the 2004 Private Bin S316 was placed third. First place went to Australia’s 2006 Tamar Ridge Botrytis Riesling. The wines filling the first three places in each category receive a gold medal. Local wines entered were up against offerings from Australia and New Zealand in the contest, chaired by renowned British wine critic Robert Joseph. The other judges were Australia’s James Halliday and Bob Campbell MW from New Zealand with Michael Fridjhon representing South Africa.
