Eight parties contest local by-elections

THERE is great interest in the outcome of the five by-elections which are being contested in Drakenstein on Wednesday, following the expulsion of five ANC members from the Drakenstein municipal council. These five councillors are all contesting their seats as independents, as the party they support, the Congress of the People (Cope), has not yet been officially registered. Voters can vote on 10 December between 07:00 and 21:00. The eight parties that are officially contesting the by-elections are the ANC, DA, ID, FD, NPP, NPSA, PDM and WCC. This is the first time that the resurrected NP (NPSA) will contest an election. * In ward seven voters can vote at Weltevrede Secondary School en VGK Van Wyksvlei. The candidates are Magdelene Williams, an independent candidate, Ursula du Plessis (ANC), Christiaan Bernet Peter Thole (DA), Elsabé Barbara Ockhuys (FD), Ruth Belldine Arnolds (ID) Knowley Lewis (NPP), Simon Johannes Jacobus Morris (PDM) and Aubrey Marinus (WCC). * Voters in ward 21 can vote at Hunter Temple AME Church and Orleansvale Primary School. The candidates are Spasie Nontuthuzelo Kika (independent candidate), Titus Williams (ANC), Eva Gouws (DA), Henry Oktober (FD) and Felix Patric Cupido (ID). * In Ward 26 voters can vote at Paulus Joubert Primary School and the tent at the corner of Conrad Street. The candidates are Van der Berg Johannes Pienaar (independent candidate), Karolis Cibido Petersen (ANC), Joyce Ann Kroutz (DA), Aden Lorenzo Lamberts (FD), Magdelena Johanna Meyer (ID), Carol Vanella Linee (NPSA) and Derrick Solomon Blanckenberg (PDM). * In Ward 28 voters can vote at E de Waal Church, Ronwé Primary School and Sonop Primary School. The candidates are Edmund Brian Pheko (independent candidate), Dina Magrieta Johnson (ANC), Frans Albertus Kellerman (DA), Isaac Cyril Pietersen (FD), Cecillia Susanna Mitchell (ID), Monica Pietersen (PDM) and Lea Elizabeth Page (WCC). * In Ward 30 voters can vote at Calvynse Protestantse Kerk Saron and VGK Saron. The candidates are Daniel Andreas Kotze (independent candidate), Andre Richard Ontong (ANC), Anthonia Andrecia le Hoe (FD) and Gerald John Witbooi (ID).
