Mall burglary
2008-12-11
SHORTLY after the Paarl Mall recovered from its electricity woes, the shopping centre became victim of a burglary. In the early hours of Monday morning an alarm sounded at Jet Stores. On investigation by security personnel, they could not find anything out of place. But on Monday morning, staff of Jet Stores discovered that burglars had gained access to the shop through the ceiling. A large number of cellphones had been stolen. The ceiling boards of neighbouring stores, Edgars and CNA, had also been lifted, but there was no evidence that the burglars had entered these shops. * The Paschen’s Butchery in Daljosafat has been added to the list of the many local businesses which this year have fallen victim to armed robbers. On Saturday morning at 10:00 five suspects entered the premises in Vosmaar Street. They confronted personnel with firearms and emptied the cash register. The men then fled in a white Toyota, taking approximately R14 000 cash with them. After thorough investigation by members of Paarl police, four suspects were arrested in Mbekweni.
