THE Boland Sports Awards Function took place in the Paarl Town Hall on Thursday 4 December.

During this illustrious event, all sporting achievements from more than twenty sporting codes during the 2008 season were honoured.

Boland Athletics was adjudged the best federation by the Boland Sports Council. Category winners were: Best Sportsman of the season in Janus Roberts (shot put and discus), best Sportswoman of the season in Janice Josephs (long jump), best Junior Sportsman of the season in Dean Swart (400m, 200m, 4x100m relay and 400m hurdles) and Best Junior Sportswoman of the season in Melissa Hewitt (100m, 200m and 4x100m relay).

The award for best disabled athlete of the season went to Hilton Langenhoven for his achievements in the 2008 Olympic Games (100m, 200m and long jump).

Mario Smith was named the best athletics coach of the season.
