Spier celebrates the season with white lights
2008-12-11
A VISIT to Spier for its Festival of White Light on 19 December offers the chance to support Aids orphans. Spier has pledged to match the ticket price of the festival with donations to the Ikhwezi Aids Orphans Sponsorship Programme. The festival is a journey across the estate punctuated with spectacular light displays and artistic performances, including fire dancers and mbira players. At 20:00 patrons will leave from the Spier Deli and join a procession led by Spier’s ‘Angel of Light’ on stilts. The highlight will be Jay Pather’s piece, ‘From Before’, featuring a fusion of dance traditions performed at Spier’s slave bell. Visitors are invited to come early and book a picnic on the banks of the Eerste River. Tickets for the festival are R95 and R55 for children under 12. This includes a glass of award-winning Spier wine at the hotel (excludes picnics and other beverages).
