EIGHT hand-picked ensembles will perform the vernacular music of the rural Cape in a Sunset Supper Concert Series at the Solms-Delta wine estate every Saturday from 17:00 to 19:30 until 31 January. From goema to langarm and vastrap to boeremusiek, the series kicks off on Saturday with funky vastrappers the Gramadoelas. The informal, outdoor performances will be held every Saturday at the Solms-Delta wine estate in the Franschhoek valley. The exciting line-up of musicians culminates with legendary saxophonist, Robbie Jansen and his star-studded original band, the Sons of Table Mountain, on Saturday 31 January. Other favourites performing in the series include Piet Visser, one of the Boland’s most popular concertina players; Jacobus Cloete, an exceptional guitarist and soulful vocalist from Namaqualand; the Ou Bosslapers who perform poignant vastrap masterpieces, and Sally Davids who plays the accordion and sings traditional Cape ‘Pinkster Koortjies’ with her eight daughters, accompanied on guitar by her son and husband. Introducing local flair to the line-up is the local amateur Delta Vastrap Genootskap, all with a passion for the Vastrap and the musical traditions of the Boland, which they will share with the audience during their performance.
