* Live. James Stewart is live at La Brasserie in Franschhoek on Saturday 24 January at 18:00. Barry van Zyl, who was the drummer for Johnny Clegg, is part of the show. * Comedy. David Newton, two-time award nominated stand-up comic (Defending the Laid Man 2006 & Politically Incorrect 2007), is back at the On Broadway Theatre for three weeks only from 3 February (20:30) in his long awaited and eagerly anticipated, brand new show, simply entitled Laugh. * Musical. Beauty and the Beast, the highly anticipated smash hit Broadway stage musical that is based on the Oscar-winning movie, opens in the Mother City on 28 January at the Artscape Opera House. The large-scale South African production, like Phantom of the Opera and The Lion King, is a replica of the international production in virtually every respect, aside from the top-notch cast of local actors. * Jazz. The Cape Dutch Connection with Klaus Baltin (trombone and vocals), Wesley Rustin (double bass), Jack Momple (drums) and Derk “Fingers” Blaisse, (piano) and guest soloist, Willie van Zyl (saxophones and clarinet) will be at La Brasserie in Franschhoek tomorrow evening (23 January) from 17:30 until 20:30. * Sasol Art Museum. Prof Nelia Saxby of the Italian Department at the University of Cape Town, will give a talk on Dante the Man on Wednesday 28 January from 13:00 to 14:00 at Stellenbosch University’s newly renovated Sasol Art Museum at 52 Ryneveld Street, Stellenbosch. The talk will focus on and provide fascinating background to Judith Mason’s monumental work, To walk with and away from Dante, currently being exhibited. Enquiries 021-808-3693/65. * Kabaret. Die Kaapse Kabaret is ’n musikale tragi-komedie, wat op 28 Januarie (19:30), 30 Januarie (21:30), 31 Januarie (16:00) en 1 Februarie (10:30) by die

Hierdie produksie handel oor die doen, late en gevolge van slawerny aan die Kaap. Die rolverdeling bestaan uit Zenobia Kloppers, Charlene Truter, Niël Rademan en Rika Vermeulen, en word geregisseer deur Juanita Swanepoel.
