AS a resident of Mbekweni I want to point out that taverns in residential areas are a big problem. Revelry carries on until the early hours of the morning. People are noisy and urinate in the street.
One of the taverns is located right next to a primary school and bottles litter the street in the morning.
What were the residents thinking when they gave permission for this retail point to become a tavern?
It is time for the Municipality to take a stand and prevent this evil in our community.
According to the new Liquor Act, municipalities can decree the operating hours of such outlets, and even close them down.
Is Drakenstein going to act?
