THE Summer Symphony Season of the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra continues tonight when the excellent young local pianist John Ntsepe returns to Cape Town to perform Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in the City Hall. Also on this programme is Prelude for the Orchestra - a work by Arwel Hughes, father of the conductor Owain Arwel Hughes, while the concert concludes with Brahms’s Second Symphony. Soloist John Ntsepe obtained his B Mus degree (cum laude) at the University of Pretoria under prof Joseph Stanford. His talent has been widely recognised with prizes, diplomas and scholarships. Since his student days at the National School of the Arts in Gauteng, Ntsepe has distinguished himself as a concert pianist with orchestra and in recital, both on television and radio. * The last concert of the season is on 5 February in the City Hall, with the award-winning Hungarian violinists Barnabás Kelemen and his equally talented wife Katalin Kokas (viola) as soloists. Ticket prices are R110 to R150 and booking is at Computicket or Artscape Dial-a-Seat 021-421-7695. (Unreserved platform seats cost R60; students and pensioners R60).
