DAGGA with a street value of more than R100 000 has been seized by the local police during the past week.

Last Wednesday, the Mbekweni Crime Prevention Unit and Paarl CIG, together with the Paarl Dog Unit, followed up information about dagga which was being stored in Silvertown, Mbekweni.

A task force was sent to the area, and very soon police dog Sussie picked up the scent.

She led the police to numerous bags of dagga which were hidden in tall grass in an open piece of land.

Altogether 378 dagga parcels were found, weighing a total of 48,4 kg, with an estimated street value of R30 200.

Nobody has been arrested in connection with this incident.

Early the next morning, the same task force held an investigative operation at the N1 toll gate.

Here a bus travelling to Cape Town from the Eastern Cape was stopped and searched.

The police uncovered almost 50 kg of dagga in the compartment in which the spare tyre should be stored.

The two bus drivers and two conductors were arrested for possession of dagga.

They appeared in Paarl Magistrate Court on Monday morning.
