I HAVE been living in the UK for almost five years now, working in the health department and though I miss my family in Paarl, one cannot help but ask - what are we supposed to do in South Africa anyway?
There are no jobs.
I would most definitely not be able to afford a car from my first pay cheque and pay my rent in SA.
There are so many things to be grateful for in the UK. South Africa will always be a great place and the place I call home, but it’s simply not a country where living is made easy.
In the UK we have a national health service, hospital and doctors are free, we get free medical care, free vouchers for food when pregnant, trust funds for your kids, benefits to all who have kids.
And burglar bars? Not seen any yet! High gates around the houses? No.
So what do you do? Leave school and be jobless or move to better things?JP
