Foot-stomping time at Grande Provence

ON 28 February, the 5-star Grande Provence Wine Estate, Franschhoek, will host its annual Harvest Festival from 08:00. Tickets are R350 per person inclusive of a light breakfast, all the harvest festivities, live entertainment provided by Marimba Vibrations, a bottle of wine per person and a delicious braai on the lawn. After steaming coffee and buttery croissants, award-winning winemaker Jaco Marais will lead visitors into the Estate’s vineyards and guide them through the finer points of the harvest process. “It’s a really fun day, however it also serves to demonstrate to the guests the amount of actual work that goes into making a fine wine. It also provides a perfect way to interact with guests and gain insight from them as to their preferences in a wine,” Marais said. From 10:30 onwards, guests will be taken to the cellar for a tour and then to the gardens to relax and enjoy a drink before being invited to foot-stomp the grapes accompanied by live music. Due to the potentially messy nature of this activity, guests are advised to bring some old clothing to wear for this part of the day’s festivities. This is followed at midday by a braai with a complimentary bottle of Angels Tears wine per person. Refreshments such as additional wine, cold drinks and bottled water will be available and sold from the bar. A variety of games can also be enjoyed. Guests are reminded to bring sunscreen.
