The WP Blood Transfusion Service would like to thank the Drakenstein community for donating blood and helping them to achieve their targets. Over the festive season they achieved their target of 360 units of blood. They also managed to achieve a total of 18970 units for the year, surpassing their target of 16 000 units, due to the great response from the community. This year they have a target of 18 330 units. Each blood donation is separated into various components and processed into several blood products that are used in combination or individually to treat a range of diseases or replace blood loss due to trauma. The WP Blood Transfusion Service has appealed to all businesses and the greater Drakenstein community to donate blood and help save a life. Anyone between the ages of 17 and 65 who weigh more than 50kg and live a safe and healthy lifestyle can become a regular donor. Each donation will help save three lives. Every Thursday from 10:00 to 19:30 you can visit the Blood Transfusion Service in Main Street, Paarl, to donate blood and on the first Wednesday of each month at the community centre opposite the trafic department in Wellington. For more information, contact the WP Blood Transfusion Service at 021-871-1030 or visit their website www.wpblood.org.za. * Laboratory supervisor AC Adams (a well-known Paarl body-builder) leaves the service after 38 years to become a full-time personal fitness trainer and Pilates instructor.
