VEHICLES right across the Drakenstein area are being targeted by car thieves.

During the past week alone, two vehicles were stolen in Paarl and three cars were stolen in Wellington.

There were also two attempted vehicle thefts in Paarl. Last Thursday evening, a maroon Audi A6 was stolen from Zion Street behind a restaurant in Central Paarl.

On Monday, the badly damaged vehicle was discovered where it had presumably been dumped by the thief down a 20 metre embankment on Du Toit’s Kloof.

On Saturday evening a bakkie was stolen from Koning Street in Paarl North.

The thief sped off and thought that he was in the clear, when he crashed into a garden wall in Groenleegte Street. He fled the scene on foot.

The same evening, an attempt was made by car thieves to steal another two vehicles in Louis Street, Paarl. In both cases the perpetrators were startled and fled the scene of the crime.

In Wellington, a white Toyota bakkie was stolen which was parked in Main Street near the tourism bureau.

And on Sunday evening a maroon Mazda 2 was stolen in Burg Street, as well as a blue Toyota Corolla in Maurice Street, Weltevrede.

A spokesperson for the police said that the public should ensure that their vehicles were parked either in a garage or were stored behind locked gates.

Any suspicious persons or vehicles must be reported to the police without hesitation.
