THE second and final event in Boland Athletics’ Summer Series, organised by Paarl Athletics Club, took place at the Dal Josaphat Stadium last night. The first Summer Series event took place at the Dal Josaphat Stadium on 28 January. Athletes from all over the Boland utilised last week’s Summer Series event to prepare for the Boland Track and Field Championships that will take place at the Coetzenburg Stadium from 27 to 28 February. Athletes from the Western Cape Sport School and junior athletes from the National Athletics Team from Qatar also competed in last week’s Summer Series Event. The star of last week’s competition was Henrico Bruintjies from Athletics Alive Athletics Club in Paarl who ran in the 100m u.15 in a time of 10,80 seconds, equalling the Boland u.15 100m record set by Mzwandile Qashani from Desmond Tutu High School last year. In the same race no less than four athletes are current, or previous, South African Champions in the 100m for sub youth boys. They demonstrated the wealth of talent in the Boland at the moment.
