I WOULD like to give full marks to a creative car guard on Jan Phillips Square in Paarl.

I was looking for a parking place on the busy square when a car guard told me to wait, he would organise a spot for me.

Next thing, he got into a car standing in one of the parking bays and reversed it out, leaving the space for me (which I duly tipped him for). He then proceeded to park the car on a yellow line, ready to “book” a space when the next bay became available.

This man is very innovative - not only does he own a car, but he makes it work for him! And since parking officials rarely go there, he is no danger of getting a parking ticket.
