Suspects out on bail
2009-02-12
TWO men have been released on bail, after appearing in Paarl Magistrate’s Court in connection with the murder of Paarl East businessman Fred Abrahams. Shaun Makubela (38) from Delft and Leroy Khumalo (35) from Observatory were arrested in November with Abrahams’s cellphone in their possession. The body of Abrahams was discovered in his Paarl East home on 10 November last year. He had been tied up and strangled, before the perpetrators escaped with a large sum of cash from a safe. There was no sign of a forced entrance into the house. A week before this incident, Abrahams was the victim of armed robbers, when he was also attacked in his home. The men tied him up, escaping with R10 000 in cash, his cellphone and his Toyota Yaris. The vehicle was later found deserted in Mbekweni. A spokesperson for the SAPS Western Cape Media Centre confirmed that two men have now been charged with Abrahams’s murder and that they will appear in court again on 16 February. Another suspect is still on the run.
