Winter lectures
2005-08-04
FOUR sharply contrasting subjects have been arranged for the winter lectures series in the Hout Street Gallery, Paarl. Lectures are Thursdays at 19:00 for 20:00, under the auspices of the Drakenstein Heritage Foundation.
Tonight horticulturist Wim Tijmens will talk on “Plants as travellers and settlers: Cape Town’s Company’s Garden”. Cape Town offered a halfway stop for 17th century travellers.
However, many also returned to stay, bringing with them seeds and plants from their countries of origin. Others took home specimens indigenous to the Cape.
On 11 August, antique dealer Geoff Burr will discuss the pioneering techniques and designs in glassware by Renee Lalique, 1911-1945.
The charge is R25 a head for individual lectures, or R80 for the series. Inquiries at 872-5030.
