Track and field season nearing its peak

FOR more than 300 000 track and field athletes at sub-youth, youth, junior and senior levels, the 2009 athletics season is rapidly nearing its peak, with a series of championships taking place over the next two weeks to determine the Boland champions in the various events. Tomorrow at the Dal Josaphat Stadium in Paarl, the Western Cape Disabled Athletics Championships will take place. A team of disabled athletes will be selected to represent the Boland at the South African Disabled Championships from 13 to 14 March in Sasolburg. The Boland Primary Schools Championships (sub-youth) will take place at the Dal Josaphat Stadium on 28 February, when more than 1000 of the best primary school athletes from the West Coast, Cape Winelands and Overberg Districts, will attempt to qualify for the Boland Primary School Team to take part in the Western Cape Championships on 7 March in Oudtshoorn. The Boland Youth and Junior Championships will take place from 27 to 28 February at the Coetzenburg Stadium in Stellenbosch. The Boland Senior Track and Field Championships will take place on Saturday at the Coetzenburg Stadium in Stellenbosch as part of the Central High Schools Regional Championships.
