Athletes excel in Summer Series

DURING the final Boland Athletics Summer Series, organised by Athletics Alive Athletic Club at the Dal Josaphat Stadium, the spectators were entertained with excellent performances in track and field. One of the highlights of the evening was the sprints for girls. In the first Summer Series event held on 28 January, Bronwyne Boonzaaier from Athletics Alive ran the 80m hurdles (girls u.13) in a time of 14,5 seconds, and the 100m in 13,7 seconds. On 14 February Bronwyne came back even stronger by running the 80m hurdles in 14,2 seconds and the 100m in a time of 13,4 seconds. Also significant was the performance of Lee-Roy Bitterhout (15) from Athletics Alive, who ran the 400m in 50,5 seconds. Curtley Davids from Athletics Alive (high jump boys u.19, 1,80m), Pieter Koopman from Nedbank (1500m in 4 minutes 21 seconds), Brandon Goosen from Paarl (3000m walk, 16 min 18 seconds), Elsabé Rudolf from Paarl (3000m walking in 20 min 13 sec), Glenville Liebenberg from Athletics Alive (u.14 3000m walking in 20 min 6 sec), Gueron Kulsen from Maties (100m and 200m in 11,4 and 22,4 seconds), Robin Julies from Paarl (Javelin Throw in 41,67m) and his Reagan Julies (Long jump in 7,22m) also performed well. * Bronwyne won the 75m and 200m hurdles, as well as the 200m, in style during the Boland Central Competition in Paarl on Saturday.
