LOVE of his family almost cost Lindela Njobe (52) his life. He was brutally attacked and left to die while walking in Mbekweni on Monday evening last week to visit his sister.

Njobe stays in New Rest, Wellington, which is about 30 minutes walk from where his sister stays.

“Three thugs walked past me and then turned back and attacked me from behind, hitting me over the head with a brick. Then they dragged me under the bridge in Drommedaris Street and beat me up.

“They took my belt, shoes and some cash. I spent the whole night lying in the water,” he said, his face coverered with mud.

When the police arrived at the scene they called an ambulance and helped to carry the injured victim, who was covered in mud and could hardly stand.”

Said one of the bystanders, Matilda Rasmani, “A lot of people are robbed on this bridge, especially at night and early in the morning when people are going to work.”

A case of assault and robbery is being investigated, said police spokesperson Constable Lungi Mqakelana.
